| NextSteps is an innovative, technology-centered life enrichment program designed
to help foster youth gain the necessary skills for a successful transition to adulthood.
We are a student-focused community of mentors, tutors & volunteers working together in
an environment of mutual respect.
Youth, ages 14-18, are offered hands-on computer training with real world applications in
a supportive, nurturing environment.
Mentors work side-by-side with each youth to aid in lesson comprehension and retention while
building relationships that are life changing for both.
The four core areas of focus are: computer literacy, writing proficiency, financial
planning & understanding, and social interaction & life skills.
Classes are delivered in a workshop format by caring and encouraging instructors.
Mission Statement
NextSteps is dedicated to equipping foster youth with the core skills needed
to successfully transition from foster care into productive, independent, confident
adults, by providing training programs administered by caring, motivated and supportive
instructors and mentors.
Vision Statement
Ensuring that foster youth are:
As prepared as possible educationally
As mature as possible in social and life skills
As healthy as possible psychologically and spiritually
WHY WE EXIST
There are 500,000 foster children in the U.S. Each year an estimated 20,000
"age out" of the foster care system. For many, aging out means aging into
homelessness, unemployment and a lifetime of struggle. Through its programs NextSteps
offers the needed support that will enable these young adults to be direct, deliberate, and
decisive in their next steps.
