Who can be a Mentor?
Any caring adult willing to give of themselves and their time in order to invest
in a young person.
Why be a Mentor?
Many young people are waiting for a caring adult to step into their lives. Who better than
someone like you? Our youth need caring adults guiding them through their struggles with growing up
while learning to make responsible choices. They need what you know.
What is Required?
NextSteps mentors are part of a community of mentors, tutors, volunteers & students working
toward a common goal, the student's success. The NextSteps mentoring program meets one evening
a week. At other times we may attend cultural or academic events together. As a NextSteps mentor
you will be asked to make a commitment of 8 months Consistency is key to mentoring. Our goal is to
create meaningful mentoring relationships that enrich the lives of both mentor and mentee.
There are mentor training sessions to help you feel comfortable and prepared. Each NextSteps volunteer
must agree to a background check.
